Ideas to Improve Your Clinical Practice Pillar

Things you could do:

  • If you do not feel that your clinical practice is fit for purpose within your current role, discuss with your supervisor/ manager and consider notifying HCPC of this.  Your registration is dependent on you being able to practice safely and competently.   • Refresh your understanding of your preferred learning style (e.g. Honey and Mumford Download here) consider how you might tailor your clinical learning to your preferred learning style
  • Discuss with your clinical supervisor what your priorities for developing clinical practice skills are. These should relate to your current development needs, your current role, and expected clinical needs of the service as well as your future aspirations
  • Explore resources provided by your professional body
  • Undertake formal clinical modules – return to practice, advancing practice which may be provided by local higher education institutions
  • Take up clinical updates provided by your Training Department or team CPD sessions
  • Arrange one off clinical supervision with someone with established skills or a specialist role
  • Spend time shadowing someone with established skills or a specialist role to update your clinical skills
  • Explore what clinical networks exist in your area/ on-line for practitioners in your area of practice/ profession – your professional body may be able to signpost you
  • Arrange for someone with established skills or a specialist to observe your practice
